A few years back a serial entrepreneur named Ryan asked me to write an origin story for his zero waste laundry company.

We talked about his business kickassery, which he had a lot of. But it wasn’t making me feel anything, so I knew we had to look somewhere else for the story.

I jokingly asked him: “Do you have anything around puppies or babies we could talk about here? Everybody loves that!”

His eyes lit up. He told me about a morning his wife was in bed with their infant, and he went downstairs with one of his sons to make breakfast. Together they watched his son’s favorite YouTube show about toys.

Ryan watched in disbelief as a young kid opened a box that his toy came in. It was wrapped in layers of plastic. The toy itself was made of plastic, and each part was wrapped in plastic. There was more plastic than toy.

He was already worried about the environment and the problems his kids would face growing up. He felt a wave disgust rising up inside of him.

But then he remembered…

He picked up the phone and called his friend Brad, another successful entrepreneur. Brad had a patent for a dissolvable laundry strip patent. He thought the strip wouldn’t work because it was so small, and had never even tested it.

Together they threw a bunch of clothes in mud for a test. They came out perfectly clean. “It works!”

There’s more to the story but suffice it to say… they brought it to market and now they have a multi-million dollar award winning zero waste laundry company.

It all started with a single moment and that’s what I want you to think about today.

You probably don’t have a laundry company, but just like Ryan you do have a pivotal moment that led to a decision. This decision pushed you down the path you traveled to become awesome at what you do today.

What is it?

Take a minute and write that moment down. Maybe you have several. Just pick one and start to build your story around it.

Hope this helps. The world needs you and your story.

Love,
Kylie

P.S. If it helps, comment below and share your moment. Tell me about it in a sentence.
